On August 15th, 1986, we lost our beloved mother, Joan F Grimm, to this insidious disease at the young age of 42. 

On September 15th, 2006, our family organized a walk in her memory to help raise community awareness and support for Ovarian Cancer.  The event, “Going the Distance”, was held at the historic Linear Park in Cheshire, CT.  The turnout exceeded all expectations.  Our volunteers helped raise $6,000!  Needless to say, the inaugural event was a huge success. 

In 2007, despite inclement weather, the event raised another $6,000!

Along the way, we met many wonderful people who were connected to this disease in one form or another.  Sadly, we met only a single survivor of Ovarian Cancer.  A reminder of how much work still needs to be done.

The 2008 "Going The Distance" Walk/Ride/Blade will be held on Sept. 6th, 2008 from 10am -1pm at Great River Park, East River Drive, East Hartford.

Joan (Fontana) Grimm was born on June 1, 1944 in Waterbury, CT.
